SDMUG has Macintosh computers and related equipment available at no charge to San Diego area schools. This equipment has been given to the San Diego Macintosh User Group (SDMUG) which retains sole discretion in determining the validity of any request for equipment, with the primary factor being our desire to put the equipment in the hands of those who will use it to be a positive influence to the community. The SDMUG will also consider other applications, including to deserving students. etc. All requests for donations must be made by teachers and / or school administrators on behalf of their own school or student(s), and proof may be requested by the SDMUG to verify this. Any and all equipment and software donated by the SDMUG is done with the understanding that no warranty, claim of performance, or statement of suitability for any use is made by the SDMUG, and the recipient(s) accepts such donations on an "as is" basis. The recipient is only obligated to make a good faith effort to place the product where it is likely to be properly used, and to make reasonable efforts to maintain it. Some items may require assistance in setting up or installing, and the SDMUG will try to help wherever possible. If you need equipment or support... Please contact the SDMUG Donations coordinator at donations@sdmug.org. Please provide a description of your needs. Also let us know if you need tech support help at your school, have equipment to donate to this effort, or anything else related to the SDMUG's School Support Program.
Donated equipment (Standards set by schools) Typically, schools want to standardize their Macs running OS X now. That means, iMacs are good, G3 Macs - WITH built-in USB (not beige G3s) - are also good. Quadras, beige boxes, etc. are not going to be accepted by schools. (Too diverse a range of equipment makes support that much more difficult for any school or organization.) Pre-iMac models are much more difficult for us to place.
If you have an earlier Mac with a clean updated operating system and it's fully operational, check with your local senior or community service organizations to learn of their possible interest. Older Macs still work fine for web browsing and email, and OS 9 is still one of the most secure (virus-free) operating systems out there! If your computer, printer, display, etc. is not in good working order, please do not "donate" it. Take it to a local recycling center where the equipment can be properly recycled. Do not throw it into the trash. |
